This is a 60 inch scale up of the original Frank Ehling design from 1938 which was a 39 inch span free flight model.
The Elf Biplane is very popular as it is nicely different from many vintage designs and as with many scale ups the lines come out well and look nicer on the bigger model. The plan was drawn up by Mike Whittard who also built the prototype that is shown on the box label.
The Elf Biplane kit includes pre cut wing ribs, tip shapes and formers, balsa strip, sheet and block parts, undercarriage wire, glazing, hardwoods and dowel, a hardware pack and full size plans. Everything needed to build the basic airframe of the model.
This is the only Elf Biplane that we currently kit but we also sell the original 39 inch plan and a 78 inch plan of the 'Super Elf' that was designed and built by Jim Dyson and his pal Brian Rowe. See the plan section for more details and how to order.
