Majestic Major

£126.95

The Majestic Major is a one and a half times size Junior 60. In actual fact it is a 1.4 and a bit times size Junior 60 simply because this was the single biggest enlargement step that could be made on the machine at UDO Wessex way back in the early 1980's. Ben Buckle had had great success in those early days with radio flying on his converted Junior 60 and wanted to make a larger version of the model. He designed and built the prototype Majestic Major but it was actually Mike Whittard who had the first test flights as Ben was somewhat overawed by it's size! We still have Ben's prototype Majestic Major and it is still in flying condition albeit a bit battle scarred. In the picture the Majestic Major is sitting on the runway intersection at South Marston airfield where Ben and Colin used to fly the model. South Marston was also the former home of the Swindon Gliding Club and it was here one balmy summer evening the Colin (me) met up with an old Skool pal Richard Chapman who was a member and got me to have a passenger flight in the Blanik 2 seater glider. I subsequently joined the SGC and had a good few years gliding there as well as racing my own and other members cars and motorbikes up and down the main runway. Gordon Mac Donald and I never could quite get the tow trucks to hit 100mph before running out of runway!

The Majestic Major kit features a 2 piece wing for ease of transport and a part pre bent undercarriage pre cut balsa and ply wing ribs, tip shapes formers sheet strip and block wood and full size plans everything in fact for the basic airframe of the model.
